Youth View: UUAA Trip

May 1, 2024 • WAltmeier

Trip to Ann Arbor
by Katy A.

I went to Ann Arbor to go to the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor (UUAA) with Carol, Jen and her four boys: Ethan, Owen, Kolbin, and Thurston. Other UU kids came too: Aurora, Thor, Alex, Remy, and Fxx. It all started when all the kids gathered in the parking lot at UUFoM and Jen split us up. Jen’s boys went with her and then Aurora, Thor, Alex, Remy, Fxx, and I went into Carol’s car. It took 1 hour and 43 minutes until we arrived to the UU in Ann Arbor.

We all stopped at a rest spot, used the bathroom, and ate a snack. I fell asleep for like 30 minutes. I woke up when we got to the church. We went in and a greeter met us and welcomed us. Then we made our name tags. They had pins out to put on your shirt with your pronouns on them and you could choose your pronouns. All of us sat down and the service started. I really liked the service. It talked about the different social justice programs and what was going on in UUAA. Then we had the dirt ceremony just like we do with the water ceremony here at UUFOM. Then we had a dirt and water ritual where we put dirt and water from different places on the ground around trees from people who passed that were part of the UUAA.

After that we went out to eat at Panera and the food was good. On our way home, we had to stop at the Flint airport so we could charge Carol’s car. I had a lot of fun there. We all got to talk and hang out. Then we got back in the cars and drove to UUFOM for our parents to pick us up. And that was my time at UUAA.

If you go there, I hope you enjoy it as well.
