Minister Reflections

December 2023
’Tis the season of giving, as they say, which reminds me of a few end-of-year requests:

  • If you haven’t yet paid your 2023 pledge, please do so in the next week or two. Any additional year-end gifts to the fellowship also will be appreciated.
  • Our December special collection and Christmas Eve collection are for the Minister’s Discretionary Fund. I rely on these funds to help congregants and others in our community who are in financial need. A) If you are in need, please let me know. B) If you have the means, please consider donating to the fund.
  • In response to my asking, staff at the Midland County Juvenile Justice Center have confirmed that, yes, incarcerated youth (currently about a dozen) would appreciate some edible treats over the holidays. (Other gifts, not so much, as the teens will not get to enjoy those until their release.) If you would be willing to provide individual treat bags in coming days, please let me know. I will visit them again on December 15 and 22.
  • Finally, we provide information to the UUA each January to recertify as a member congregation (as we ask our own members to affirm membership each fall). When Wendy asks for info about your identity or other demographics, please give it. (She’ll also ask for your birthday, but that is only for our records, to help us celebrate you!)

Thank you for your generosity, especially at this time of year. I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it for the Christmas Eve service (6:30 p.m.). Otherwise, I hope your holidays are full, rich, and meaningful!

Blessings, Rev. Eric Severson
