Moving from History to Our Story – The Opportunity Posed by Juneteenth National Holiday

Led by guest speaker, Dr. Betty Jones. 

Dr. Betty Jones is a fifty year resident of Midland.  Hers was one of the first 10 African American families to come to the city. She is an educator and author, and retired from Delta College in 2001 as Vice President of Instruction and Learning.  Dr. Jones initiated innovative models for learning among college students and initiated and shaped Delta’s International programs, including a Sister College Exchange and partnership with a Technical College in Kenya. This was the first grant awarded to a community college by the United States Information Agency.  Dr. Jones is a community volunteer and author of the recent publication –  Pass it On:  African Americans in Midland, Michigan 1860 – 2020.
