Purpose, Values, and Vision

1.1 Purpose

  • The purpose of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland is to create and maintain a liberal religious intergenerational community.

1.2 Values/Philosophy

  • 1.2.1 Affirm, nurture, and promote our Unitarian-Universalist values of individual responsibility and freedom of belief, democratic process, and universal interdependence.
  • 1.2.2 Provide the opportunity for us to recognize and achieve our potential as human beings.
  • 1.2.3 Provide a supportive and stimulating environment wherein we can examine, clarify, and strengthen our own personal value systems.
  • 1.2.4 Strengthen and sustain us in our efforts to live our values by constructively influencing the larger communities in which we all function.
  • 1.2.5 Join us in celebrating life's joys, wonders, and rites of passage while supporting and comforting us in times of need.

1.3 Vision

  • 1.3.1 Our Vision for Individual Members
    • We attract and nurture members and friends seeking spiritual truth. We honor their generous gifts of time and money.
  • 1.3.2 Our Vision for the Congregation
    • 1.3.2.1 Members of our congregation and our minister are actively involved in each other's lives by celebrating life's triumphs and supporting each other in times of challenge or need.
    • 1.3.2.2 Our congregation provides the warmth of friendship in a diverse community committed to our UU principles and encouraged by our religious heritage. Our gatherings provide inclusive social, spiritual and intellectual activities for all ages, stimulating the heart and mind with uplifting experiences, challenging issues, and exciting ideas.
    • 1.3.2.3 We nurture the hearts and minds of our youth, helping them grow to be fulfilled adults, and inspiring them to carry the torch of our faith into the future.
  • 1.3.3 Our Vision for our Interaction with the Local Community
    • 1.3.3.1 We plan, direct and participate in community activities that demonstrate the Seven UU principles and provide a voice allowing others to learn about them, while serving the needs of the larger community.
    • 1.3.3.2 Our fellowship is known in the local community as a welcoming place.
  • 1.3.4 Our Vision for our Interaction with the World
    • We work actively for peace and justice in the world by promoting and living the Seven UU principles.

 

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland is recognized by the Unitarian Universalist Association as a Welcoming Congregation. We welcome, affirm, promote and celebrate the full participation of all persons in all of our activities without regard to age, gender, sexual orientation, race or any other such category of exclusion.
