In Memoriam

August 28, 2011 “Poetry Service

“Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary.” —Kahlil Gibran

We will be enjoying a poetry reading service. The Sunday Services Committee would like to invite you to share some of your own poetry or favorite verses with the rest of the Fellowship. Please contact Beth Emmons, bethann302@gmail.com, if you are interested.

September 4 “Obedience”
Jeff Liebmann

Labor Day is the last summer holiday that broadly evokes national pride through parades and festivities of the “American spirit.” But, our governments at every level remained embroiled in partisanship drowning out public service, calling into question any simple patriotic celebrations. As unions bend under multiple assaults to their very existence, today we examine our duty as free thinkers and citizens.

September 11 “Coming Home” (Homecoming Sunday)
Jeff Liebmann

We inhabit many locations in our lives. But we reserve the label "home" for very special places - places of depth, meaning, and love. Where is your spiritual or religious home? As we commit to a new church year together, let us bring water from our summers (actual or symbolic) and share a sentence about some way explored the depths of meaning and love.

September 18 “A Faith of Modern Explorers”
Jeff Liebmann

Midland touts itself as the City of Modern Explorers. What sets explorers apart from the rest of the crowd? Curiosity and courage; imagination and individuality; passion and persistence. Where is your frontier?

September 25 “The Voices at our Table”
Jeff Liebmann

Unitarian Universalists have long and admirably fought for the rights of the oppressed. Welcoming the “other” into our religious community represents a different challenge. What do you consider before inviting a guest or stranger to our Fellowship.

October 2 “The Theology of Magic: The Gathering”
Jeff Liebmann

If your idea of playing a game stopped with Monopoly, meet Magic: The Gathering. This card game is wildly popular among young people and collectors but also offers an interesting world view appropriate on this Association Sunday, when we celebrate the wondrous diversity of Unitarian Universalist congregations.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland is recognized by the Unitarian Universalist Association as a Welcoming Congregation. We welcome, affirm, promote and celebrate the full participation of all persons in all of our activities without regard to age, gender, sexual orientation, race or any other such category of exclusion.
