UUFOM Votes

to become a

WELCOMING CONGREGATION!

Press Release

On May 20, 2001, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland (UUFoM) passed a resolution to become a Welcoming Congregation, joining a nationwide Unitarian Universalist Association program to end discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. This means the UUFoM affirms and includes people of all sexual orientations in its Fellowship. This affirmation of bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender experience flows naturally from the Unitarian Universalist belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Is Unitarian Universalism totally free of homophobia? Of course not, but whenever Unitarian Universalists are called on to take a position on bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender issues, the sentiment is overwhelming: the human family is one, and the fears and hatreds that divide must be overcome. Human loving and human sexuality are not less sacred and good when shared between members of the same sex. The culture and history of bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender people are important to all of society.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Midland welcomes anyone with a sincere desire for a search for truth and meaning. Weekly Sunday services are held at 10:30 a.m. at 6220 N. Jefferson. For more information, contact the Rev. Jane Thickstun at (989) 631-1162.
